The Spirit of Derby

Every page has a Spirit, drawn from its colors — the crisper the pair, the livelier it is. Feed, pet or play; the whole internet shares this one.

Live specimen

Almost before we knew it

The pair at the sizes real interface text gets used — a heading, a line of body copy, and a button. If all three hold up here, the pair works.

The pair as published — paste it into your stack. Where the AA-corrected ink differs, it's labelled, never swapped in silently. “Badge” embeds a live SVG of the pair and its rating.

Color-blind view

Contrast is a luminance ratio, and color blindness keeps luminance — so it barely moves below. What moves is distinguishability: how far apart the two colors stay (ΔE). That is the number to watch, and why this section exists. You can publish any of these as its own pair.

On screen vs on paper

A backlit display flatters a pair; paper doesn't. Warm stock instead of #FFFFFF, a smaller gamut, lower contrast — this is where the verdict often changes.

On paper — approximate

An approximation of warm stock, reduced gamut and lower contrast — not a color-managed proof, and no claim about a specific press. For signage at distance, shrink the specimen with the size slider above.
